By Apurvi Bansal

Pizza, I guess is almost everyone's favourite the crust with your favourite topping and a Cool Drink brings everything together. Today I am sharing with you an easy Recipe for Pizza that you can make at home easily to make it a little healthier I am using Whole Wheat Flour.

Since, I am making a Vegetarian Pizza I am going to load it up with loads of Veggies that I have in hand at the moment but you feel free to add toppings of your choice be it - pepperoni, Eggplant or Pineapples, your choice completely.

Important Points:

Flour: I am using Whole Wheat flour in this Recipe please do not substitute it with any other type of Flour since this Recipe is developed only for Whole wheat flour you will end up wasting your Ingredients if you substitute it with any other type of flour. If you have Vital Protein/Gluten Powder you may use 5 grams of it and replace the same quantity of Flour.

Water: Since, different Flour has different water absorption capacity this Recipe uses high Hydration level also, it depends on the fineness of the flour the texture of the dough may be slightly different then shown so, you can add some flour or water to compensate.

Kneading: kneading the dough is very important you just not need to form a dough but have to knead it thoroughly so that Gluten strands develop as I mentioned this Recipe uses high hydration level kneading with hands might be difficult since the dough will be extremely sticky so be patient and if you are not using an electric kneader then knead it until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Ingredients (Makes2-3)

150gm; 2/3 Cups; 5.3 Oz Lukewarm Water
12gm; 1tbsp Fine Sugar
5gm; 1-1/2tsp Instant Yeast
180gm; 1-1/2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
4gm; 3/4tsp Salt
15gm; 1tbsp Olive Oil

Pizza Sauce
Topping of your Choice
Whole wheat flour- for dusting
Semolina- For Dusting
Olive Oil- Garnish

Method

Step 1: Activate the Yeast
In a bowl, combine lukewarm water and fine sugar, stirring well to dissolve. Add the yeast, mix gently, and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy. If the yeast does not foam, discard and start again with fresh ingredients.

Step 2: Make the Dough
Once the yeast is activated, add whole wheat flour, salt, and olive oil to the bowl. Mix with a spoon until combined. Knead the dough using an electric kneader for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If kneading by hand, dust your hands and work surface well with flour, as the dough will be sticky. Continue kneading for 15–20 minutes until smooth and pliable.

Lightly grease your hands with olive oil, bring the dough together, and smooth the surface. Cover the dough and allow it to proof until doubled in size, approximately 45–90 minutes, depending on room temperature.

Step 3: Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air bubbles. Lightly flour your work surface and shape the dough into a ball. Divide it into two or three equal portions and shape each into a smooth dough ball. Place them on a floured plate, cover, and let them proof again for 30–45 minutes.

Step 4: Shape the Pizza Base
Dust your work surface with a mixture of flour and semolina. Take one dough ball (keeping the others covered) and sprinkle some flour on top. Using only your fingertips, gently press the dough outward, leaving the edges intact to form a border.

To transfer the shaped dough, flip it onto the back of your hands, dust off excess flour, and place it onto a baking tray. Adjust the shape if needed. Prick the base with a fork to prevent puffing during baking.

Step 5: Assemble the Pizza
Spread a generous layer of pizza sauce over the base. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese evenly, followed by your favorite toppings. For a vegetarian pizza, add a mix of fresh vegetables. If you prefer extra cheesy pizza, sprinkle additional mozzarella on top. Before baking, brush the edges of the crust with olive oil for a golden finish.

Step 6: Bake the Pizza
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the pizza for 11–14 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.

For a crispier base, preheat a pizza stone or baking tray before transferring the pizza. To do this, dust a plate with flour, place the shaped dough on it, and carefully slide it onto the preheated tray. Bake as directed.

Since this is a whole wheat pizza, the crust will be slightly darker than one made with refined flour.

Step 7: Finishing Touches
Once baked, brush the edges with olive oil and drizzle some on top if desired. Sprinkle chili flakes and oregano for extra flavor. Slice and serve warm.

Enjoy your homemade Thin Crust Whole Wheat Pizza! 🍕
